Contemporary Bedrooms For Little Girls

You aren’t a fan of pink and baby blue isn’t something you’d consider for your child’s bedroom. In a world full of pink princess themes and baby boy clouds and cars, parents are starting to rebel against the traditional children’s bedrooms. Current design trends have started to veer into the territory of contemporary bedrooms for children that, while still cute and childlike, are also striking and modern. How do you create a bedroom for your child? Simply remember, less is more.
Picking your paint colors can be a daunting task if you ask you child’s advice. Often kids will choose the brightest, boldest colors they see. You can still have a minimalist feel and give your child a color they’d love by having an accent wall. Does your daughter like fuchsia and fairies? Paint one wall in her bedroom dark pink and the rest of the walls white. Take that dark pink color and find a stencil that she loves. If it’s fairies she wants, find a Disney stencil that has Tinkerbell or her Pixie Hollow friends. Stencil on the white walls a set pattern, but try to avoid the trap of painting a boarder around the room. Stenciling 10 fairies in no particular pattern will be much more striking than following the wall.
Children’s bedding can range from frou frou to extremely plain. With a dark feature wall, you are best to find a pattern that has a touch of your accent color and not a lot of white. Kids are hard on their stuff, and solid white bedding will create a lot of extra laundry for you. Paisley, floral, polka dots, and stripes are all good choices for a girl’s room. If they have been begging for themed sheets, go ahead and add them. With a pretty comforter and pillow shams, the sheets won’t be as obvious.
Kids like a bit of luxury too, and a large contemporary area rug will give them a soft place to play and dream. Find a rug that has some of your accent color in it, and choose a pile that isn’t overly hard on the knees. Short rugs will be easier to clean if there are stains.
When choosing wall art or décor, stay away from the traditional children’s items and don’t overwhelm the walls with clutter. An antique mirror over your daughter’s dresser would be something she could cherish for years. Wooden letters spelling out, “Dreams”, “Peace”, and “Love” are easy to find at home stores, and they look great on your little girls’ walls. Create a small desk for her in the corner of her room, complete with a small writing surface, a mirror, and a comfy stool. Add a big vase and bring in tulips and daffodils on occasion. Little girls love to receive flowers as much as big girls.
If your dream has been to give your daughter a beautiful bedroom, think about creating one that will stand the test of time. A contemporary feel for a child’s room can mean a safe, comfortable haven for your little one.
